Each year, an estimated 6 to 8 million companion animals enter shelters, and all are in need of a good home. October is National “Adopt a Shelter Dog” Month. Will you help homeless dogs this year?

Here are four simple things that you can do to help dogs in October:

  1. Volunteer at a local open-admission shelter.
What better way to help animals than by volunteering your time to help out?! Please contact your local animal shelter and inquire about volunteer opportunities.
  2. Consider fostering a dog.
Local rescue organizations are always looking for responsible people to foster dogs and cats until a home can be found for them. If you’re able to care for a lonely dog temporarily, please contact a local rescue organization and find out how to become a foster.
  3. Distribute literature about the importance of adopting animals and never buying them from stores or breeders.
If you’d like free literature to distribute in your town to help raise awareness of the animal overpopulation crisis, please send me an e-mail (AdamM) with your mailing address, and I’ll be happy to send you some materials!
  4. Support PETA’s mobile clinics and Community Animal Project.
Did you know that PETA has provided nearly 100,000 animals with low-cost to no-cost spay and neuter surgeries and veterinary care at our three AdamM. I look forward to hearing from you!
