A year ago, in an unprecedented attack on nature and democracy, Canada passed a far-reaching bill that repealed or weakened most of Canada’s foundational environmental laws. Now that bill could actually be enacted!

Please sign the petition today! Protect Fish and Their Habitats! take action

Dear Kimberley,

As part of that damaging bill, changes were made that “took the guts” out of the Fisheries Act. The public was outraged, and we worked hard to defend Canada’s lakes, rivers and fish. The outcry of concern was so great that the federal government has never implemented its planned changes to the Fisheries Act to weaken habitat protection.

But if we don’t speak out today, those changes will be put into effect! Speak out to protect fish and their habitats.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans has indicated that within weeks, existing protections for fish habitats could be repealed and replaced by new, weaker rules. We can’t let this happen!

Send a message to Prime Minister Harper and call on the federal government to maintain strong legal protection for fish!

In a recent episode of “Under Wild Skies,” an NBC Sports show about big game hunting, the host (an NRA lobbyist) and his guide gun down a helpless bull elephant and take the ivory with them.

Please sign the petition today! Tell NBC Sports: This Needless Killing of Wild Animals is a Disgrace! take action
please share it helps! share on facebook share on twitter share via email

Dear Kimberley,

As if big game hunting wasn’t disgusting enough on its own, it’s horror is compounded when a national sports channel broadcasts the entire thing, and when the animal being hunted is under constant threat from cruel and relentless poachers. Tell NBC Sports that you won’t stand for “Under Wild Skies” continuing to be on the air.

In a recent episode of this show, the host and his guide stalk and shoot a bull elephant, who trumpets and writhes in pain, even charging after the two men. The host then shoots it again between the eyes. After the elephant falls, the two men stand next to the dead elephant to gloat about their “achievement.” Upon returning to their camp, they discuss how “special” it is to bring back an elephant’s ivory.

This show demonstrates an absolutely horrific lack of respect for wild animals in their own habitat, a lack of any kind of empathy for the suffering of these animals, and a complete ignorance of the problems facing these animals every day.

Please join the thousands of people who are voicing their outrage at this episode and this show. Tell NBC Sports to remove the show from their programming immediately!

Bears in the Great Bear Rainforest are becoming accustomed to ecotourist visitors and less cautious around humans. This makes the bears more vulnerable to hunters, but the government continues to issue hunting permits within the forest!

Great Bear Rainforest

Dear Kimberley,

The Great Bear Rainforest has seen a recent boom in popularity as an ecotourist destination in British Columbia. Many people visit to observe how the resident bears live in their natural habitat. These bears are becoming accustomed to seeing curious and friendly humans. They’re losing their natural fear of humans, and hunters are taking advantage of their trust.

Hunters are purposefully targeting the forest for its abundance of unsuspecting bears to shoot. Despite this recipe for disaster, the government continues to grant hunting permits in the rainforest. This has to stop. The government should be protecting these bears, not licensing their slaughter.

Hunting is currently banned in half the Rainforest, but of course the bears can’t distinguish between areas where they’re safe and areas where they might be shot. The bears need a full hunting ban to be completely protected, and 87% of local residents support the idea.

It’s time to change the policy! Tell the B.C. government to ban bear hunting in the Great Bear Rainforest.
